Irony of a high paying job

Do high paying jobs always guarantee satisfaction? This is the question which most of the MBA grads will be able to answer. Come campus placements and people scamper around to apply for the best jobs in their field of specialization.

Everyone wants the right mix of money and profile. How many get this right mix, well that is up to destiny.

I believe most of them end up going for the pay and compromising on the profile. Very few stick to their belief of getting a good profile and the pay doesn't matter.

After having completed my MBA and working for around 1 year and a half, I have realized that we are being paid a good sum of money which gets credited every month to our bank accounts(which have become nice and fat by now). However the kind of work we get is what any graduate(B.E for IT industry) can very well do with a little inclination towards the business side.

Satisfaction? Not a chance! When you do a job of a Glorified Admin Assistant, what should you expect? Good work comes by just for a month or two. Rest of the time gets spent in assisting someone or researching on topics.

Contrast this to a person who has chosen the profile over package. I bet that person would have much more responsibilities and would be working independently. The kind of experience that you would get in such a scenario would be awesome.

The problem of a high paying job with nothing great to do is compounded when you plan to switch to a good profile job. The good profile job will invariably not pay you as much as your current salary!

There are a few who do compromise on the salary aspect and move on. Few others get stuck till they find that elusive company which offers both.

In the end, I have come to the conclusion that its always the profile which will give you satisfaction at the end of the day than the money. Money will come, provided you have a solid specialty in one particular area. You have to carve your niche and money will follow you.

P.S: This post is dedicated to MG who stuck to his guns and is soon gonna start firing all cylinders.

Well said!
Of course, in current times, money matters... but what matters most is your satisfaction and your lifestyle... i mean, if you have all the money that u want, but don't have time to spend it, because you r doing all the gadhamajuri work all week long for someone else... what's the point?

depends - there are the people who work for things money can buy. and then, there are those that work for the sake of the work itself. understand what works best for you, and then figure out how to go about it. :-)
